Subculture Slam - Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre - Art Fashion Culture!

Last night I had the pleasure of speaking about this very blog - Street Fashion Sydney - at the Subculture Slam at Casula in Western Sydney.  I was one of four speakers along with Artists Stuart Bailey and Harrison Earl and Australian Deer Hunting Association President John Mumford - yes hunting is a subculture; bet you didn't know that!

All four speakers gave a 6ish minute talk while we showed 20 slides of our work in a  Pecha Kucha style presentation. Both Stuart and Harrison have work currently on exhibition at the gallery and it was a real treat listening them talk about their work, influences and art process. I spoke about the same sort of things I suppose but from a Street Fashion perspective and threw in a bit of the history of the blog and my thoughts about how we can influence our culture through writing and photography. John spoke about the history of hunting from cave dwelling times onward and the hunters role as environmentalist, as he said - "I'm probably going to be the most challenging speaker tonight." And I think he probably was in a controversial kind of way..

After the event I managed to photo-bomb the tidy up as the legally obtained milk-crates were returned to another part of the gallery and grab some fresh Street Fashion shots. Love the white blouse under the blue denim smock, black tights and laced boots; and who, I do mean who could resist a SAVE FERRIS Tee shirt teamed blue jeans, black boots and bag and those fab curly locks of hair!  Not me that's for sure. And last but not least Slam organiser Michael Do in a classic all black get-up and a fine looking Fedora!

A huge thank you to Director Kiersten Fishburn who MC'd the evening; event organiser Michael Do, everyone at Casula Powerhouse and my fellow speakers for making the Subculture Slam such a wonderful night.

And one last note; this inner city boy discovered just how easy it is to get to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, just get on the train for a hassle free 45 minute ride to a great art space and great art.
