On Tuesday evening Vivienne
vivialaViv Shui & I headed over to
Hotel 57 in Foveaux Street Surry Hills for the
Ethical Fashion Experience which was a gathering together of mostly local labels who have incorporated the important, social and ethical aspects of manufacturing into their designs. I met and spoke with principles behind three of the four labels on show. Jimmy wearing that amazing jacket below who was introducing the UK designed
Zimbabwe-made-wire-frame Wires Sunglasses range (Click the links for more details).
Citizen Wolf's - Tailored Organic Tees, Zoltan Csaki who informed me they purchase all their organic Jersey from a mill in Melbourne - That's right
AUSTRALIA you still make something! Vivienne and I also spoke with Finnish/ Australian-trained Enmore Design School Jeweller and business owner who's pieces are made in a workshop in SE Asia; she has visited and seen herself there are no children working, everything is above board and the craftspeople are paid properly. I also met Sydney
sculptor Daniel Dominguez who sculpted the fabulous heads the were used as the display busts for the Wires sunnies. While we missed out on meeting with
Mighty Good Undies I can see from their website that they are onto a pretty good thing too. So check them all out - if only all fashion and accessories were made with such good intent for the maker and the consumer. Well done guys, keep up the good work.
