Casual Comfort and Style
I spotted this lady walking along Old South Head Road while Viv and I were on the way to Art Atrium for an exhibition opening. I was going to grab a sneaky sneaker shot but when she stopped for the lights I simple asked for a Street Fashion Sydney shot and she agreed. Then we all introduced ourselves - but my memory is like a sieve! So here's to Adidas and Pearls, Style and Comfort. Thank you for the picture, it's much appreciated. Kent.

Last Weekend of Head On Round-Up and Art Around Town
Yes it's the last weekend of the 2018 edition of the Head On Photography Festival and the Festival Hub up at Sydney's Paddington Town Hall. Which also means its the last chance to see the exhibitions there and the Semi Finalists on the big screen - including me - or my portrait of Vivienne to be more precise. So you will want to check those shows out ASAP. www.headon.com.au/
Also closing this weekend is Set Fire To the Sea Sinead Kennedy's The Pool Grant 2018 Exhibition at special group gallery 270 Devonshire street, Surry Hills. Very interesting show I was hoping to review but have not been back since the opening - fingers crossed to make it back tomorrow!
Street Fashion Sydney had a great time at William Yangs's exhibition launch at Maunsell Wickes but that show is now down; perhaps there is some work in the stock room; great show, there is always something to learn from viewing William Yang's work. Congratulations William.
There is still time to check out the fine art nudes show Tela Umana work by Lori Cicchini and Edmond Thommen at M2 Gallery near Central.
[STOP PRESS]
You can also check out Nudes On Tap this Saturday as they hand out the prizes - from 5PM apparently!
Ok seems I'm a day late with this one too, the most astonishingly beautiful show of all.. Samantha Everton, Indochine at Art House Gallery, if you are quick they may still have something in the stock room..

Fresh figurative paintings by fresh young painters The Radical Familiar until the 26th so you need to hustle along to Piermarq Gallery
Sarah Cottier Gallery opened CHROMA last night with Maria Cruz, Matthys Gerber, Brendan Van Hek, Jonny Niesche, John Nixon, Andreas Reiter Raabe and Franz West, Oliver Wagner (Photographed) and Jonathan Zawada. Lovely show, check it out! http://www.sarahcottiergallery.com/
Tuesday night I thought I was simply attending the Bob Marchant show at Australian Galleries but it seems we were all crashing his 80th birthday too - congratulations and Happy Birthday Bob! A very joyful and colourful exhibition, part survey show downstairs with new works in the upper gallery. On Now!
Last but not least, blink and you will have missed it - 'Passaggio' Catherine Cloran which was on at Barometer Gallery in Paddington, semi abstract colour works from nature created in the Italian countryside. you can still view the show here on Catherine's website

Travel Photography - Is Staten Island the Best Ferry Ride in the World?
Best FREE Ferry ride.. Well I don't actually know if there are many free ferry rides so that narrows down the list quite a lot. Google tells me there is also one in British Colombia, the Kootenay Lake ferry. But that's like in the bush someplace.. in Canada. And I'm thinking a bit more metropolitan/urban transport really (like Sydney's terrific harbour crossing Manly Ferry - but it's not free) so that leaves the Staten Island Ferry. It's certainly a ferry ride I have wondered about making, and now having made it I can honestly say, this is a bucket list New York thing to do. At least if you have more than a couple of days in the city. Vivienne and I (thank you White Caviar Life) made the short 30 min each way journey at around midday, so we managed to avoid commuter crush. That said, in big cities you still have reasonable crowds, and hey it's free and it's New York! Did I mention it's free? Once onboard, if you plan to take pictures you will want to grab your spot on some open railing or you will be shooting over peoples heads while trying to make your own masterpiece of Lady Liberty; or a selfie.. details continue below.
When leaving from Manhattan that means going over to the right, or starboard side of the boat. As you pull out of the ferry terminal and begin your journey toward Staten Island the Hudson river and the vast expanse of water that is Manhattan Harbor slowly comes into full view with the east river too, suddenly making it quite clear that Manhattan really is an island. Albeit one with a lot of spiky towers sticking up all over it. Curiously this is a view and a landscape you know from years of TV and movies and, well just being inundated by the lore of New York. Though as we made way the experience for me took on on a kind of hyper reality; the motion of the craft on the water, the sounds, the salt in the air and all the other tourists like me, jostling for a place on the rails so they too can capture the view with their cameras. The round trip to Staten Island and back to lower Manhattan, catching the next ferry back; took only 90 minutes. We then spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the immediate area including the financial district; but I will save those stories and pictures for another time. And next time; I want to try taking the ferry at twilight, I think that would be brilliant too! - Want to see the pictures bigger, simply click on them.
