André Leon Talley - The Gospel According to André

Over the years whenever I saw this man in clips from fashion shows I always wondered just who this was, this person with an amazing presence, manner, unique sense of style and access all areas. His name is André Leon Talley and a documentary about his life and stratospheric rise in fashion starts playing at Palace cinemas today, 12 July 2018. I attended a media preview a week or so ago and found the movie enthralling. A rags to riches story of sorts, André's life begins in the Jim Crow era in the Southern USA, humble beginnings on the cusp of social upheaval. University and life changing meetings with artists, then on to NYC and working at The Factory for Andy Warhol - His First Job in NY!!! Thanks to time with Diana Vreeland.. There is plenty of complexity to the man and it takes some digging to get past the defences; but the fashion journey well documented from the first interview with Karl Lagerfeld onward and upward with plenty of fashion insights and anecdotes along the way.  I can't help but wonder about all the fashion documentaries we have been being gifted over the past few years from The September Issue, Lagerfeld Confidential, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent. The houses remain standing but you can feel it's the end of an era. If you love fashion you will love this film.
