MATERIAL MATTERS Jewellery exhibition at Windowsmiths Gallery

Last night Street Fashion Sydney attended the launch of  the Brooch Club's MATERIAL MATTERS exhibition at Windowsmiths Gallery at 33 Bayswater Road, Kings Cross (or as the author heard recently, Potts Point South - as realtors have taken to saying). We had a great time at this exhibition of hand crafted jewellery, a group show beautifully presented. It's a part of Sydney Craft Week.

Doctor Molotov as Bowie at Darryn Lyons Gallery

Last night saw the launch of a new David Bowie exhibition at the relatively new Lyons Gallery situated in the heart of the Paddington Fiveways. An impressive collection of editioned images are on display from a variety of photographers, some as famous in their own right as the subject himself.  Curator, Sandra Schnellhaus-Stephen has done a wonderful job of selecting and displaying the work in an immersive gallery environment. If you love the era of classic sixties and seventies celebrity photography, and on into the nineties, this gallery is a must for your list.

Lovely evening, thanks to everyone at Lyons Gallery, check them out at 248 Glenmore Road Paddington, NSW 2022.

Stories of Change with the KODAK EKTRA

Top night out in Dumbo, Brooklyn (yes Dumbo really exists!) at Usagi Gallery. I'm going to be a bit lazy and just for once simply quote the gallery page "Kodak Ektra will present Stories of Change. This part of the exhibition will feature images captured on the KODAK Ektra Smartphone by three influential female photographers — Nicola Bailey, Renell Medrano and Jen Steele. Stories of Change is a thematic study of New York culture, society and population, showing how photography can capture and influence social trends." Congratulations to my friend, Nicola, Renell and Jen and a huge thank you for the invite and not actually collapsing when she saw I made it to the show ;-) Beautiful work from all photographers; and although it's not about the equipment. Kodak seem to have done well with this new camera-phone; the prints were great. And for anyone of my generation who grew up with those yellow boxes, film and cameras, to see Kodak back in the game and supporting photographers and photography is just fantastic too! Useful links at the bottom of the page; and more street fashion to come, so stay tuned - follow on Facebook. And now here's some shots of the night.

The Second Last Show at Stills Gallery - Glenn Sloggett and Jane Brown.

Yes you read that right; this wonderful exhibition of photography by Glenn Sloggett and Jane Brown is the second to last show at Stills which is to close at the end of June! You can read all about that and the future of the gallery space - photography please!! - here on Stills about page.

Down in the dumps by Glenn Sloggett and Sporting Country by Jane Brown are two complimentary shows, Glenn working with suburban ironies and oddities that only a truly quirky eye can deliver. Both are shooting film however Jane leaves the city altogether and with only black and white film loaded into her camera. Jane's images are those of rural Australian sporting places and the typical Australian-ness of those places. The moment I saw the small scale prints I knew immediately I was looking at superb hand made, wet bench prints on fibre based paper; and they literally sing! If you are part of the younger set shooting film for the first time I cannot recommend seeing this show and these prints enough. Stunning images and printed by Jane herself. Rumour is there will be a large group show to close out the space so keep your eyes and ears open for that. in the mean time, check out this show!
