Climbing Montblanc - Writing a New-Look of Life's Essential Accessories.

I always wanted one of those beautiful fountain pens and for a while it did look like I just might get one. I would take my 21st Birthday money and splash out on a timeless writing instrument, something nicer than the gold metal pen with four colours I chose for my 10th birthday. But it was not to be; after all it was the 80s! First came an AIWA Walkman (a mobile cassette player (cassette, a funny plastic things with string inside to play music)) and after that.. who knows what happened to the rest of that big influx of cashhhh.. Maybe I should have gone with the Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Fountain Pen after all; the AIWA never lasted.. and you can now do everything on your mobile phone including listening to all your music - but you still can't sign your name with a mobile phone handset! Not really, although I am pretty sure they are working on it.This year Montblanc is celebrating the 90th anniversary of this German companies, yes German companies most iconic item, and they are celebrating with a special anniversary edition of the Meisterstück 149 Fountain Pen, 90 years and still going strong. Even more remarkable when you consider we now live in an electronic world, a world where Australia Post is trying to spin off the loss making letters department (hello email) and make money with parcel delivery (thank you e-commerce). When your greatest claim to fame is the Mighty Pen - how do you remain relevant? Well you don't throw in the towel and you don't give up that's for sure. You look at what is special about writing, the whole process not just he end result. Then you look out for those other special items that people keep close to their heart, intimate accessories, the things you touch, things that touch you and say something about you - and then you go for it; and you keep your heritage but you're not silly, you innovate too. And if you are Australian GM Randall Foote you even get to light the torch for Montblanc's innovation (literally - picture below) and show off your latest accessories in treated REAL leather that can withstand more than a few bumps, scratches, even a blowtorch! BTW Randall I may have misheard you but that torch is not 500c more like 2000c, that is impressive and one hot tip to beat!

Vivienne and I had a wonderful time at the launch, Australian GM Randall Foote's talk about the Brand, it's history and future was thoroughly engaging and informative and seeing the video of Hugh Jackman, Montblanc's brand ambassador on the big screen was fabulous too, great video guys! It's always and I do mean always great to see beautifully crafted and designed objects, that something special at which Montblanc excels.

If it suits the Artist - So be it!
Well as you all know its Art Month here in Sydney and the weather, apart from a bit of a quickie storm this afternoon.. has been a lovely and sunny Autumn seemingly reversing itself back into Summer. In a nutshell you may still wear what you like. So it is nice to see great art and a fabulous array of fashion. Friday night I attend the exhibition Elan of Trenton Shipley at Gallery Eight, who as it turns out is an artist after my own heart in more ways than one. Trenton's show was my second look at naked ladies on canvas inside seven days, and it is curious that both 'nude' artists should choose to wear jackets to their shows with Trenton going all-the-way in a suit with a fabulous paisley necktie and art-matching pocket handkerchief. Is this the dress of painters of the undressed? I don't know, however I will be on the lookout for more fashion signs and wonders on the naked art front.
With all due respect, seriously; I love what I can only describe as a return to Disco Fever worn so beautifully by the lovely Hannah at Olsen Irwin last week for Tamara Dean's 'The Edge', and that's one of Tamara's art photographs right behind Hannah. Another beautiful show. Olsen Irwin was also the site of Robert Malherbe's What's there is there, an exhibition of life painting and landscapes. Robert turned out in all black with a lovely black jacket as you can see in his portrait with the beautiful large nude painting below. I just love his style of brushwork and colour, beautiful the paintings and Robert is equally charming.

Perfect fashion minimalism with an abundance of cool style. Shell-parka style hooded top, black skinny jeans and soft leather boots complimenting the top and tying it all together. Great work Matthew.

Men's Spring Style - Lightweight jacket Stripes and Hat..
This great Spring/Summer men's outfit was spotted on Thursday evening at the Emporio Armani National Art School Postgraduate Exhibition 2013 (more on the NAS PostGrad show and Emporio Armani liaison coming in a separate post soon).. Love the hat, the colour contrast highlighted with the red bandanna, or neckerchief if you prefer.. the unstructured jacket, jeans with rolled cuffs and brogue-ish boots and a man-bag tote for all your stuff; a perfect blend of creative casual styled just right.

Weekend Fashion-Camouflage for Guys and Gals..
Yes it was a bit cold over the weekend so we all had our jackets and what-not out to see us through the inclement nature of the weather; but what I was not expecting was to see a run on camouflage gear. And yes second picture down, I do think that home made so-I-was-told scarf qualifies as camouflage fashion too. The big question is, is this a forerunner for later in the year or just a rainy day coincidence? I suppose only time will tell but it might me nice to see a shift from leopard print to the many different prints of camouflage style.. .
