Dan - Royal Blue, Pink - Greens, Black & Yellow Too.

I can't think of the last time I saw such a well coordinated and original outfit as the one Dan is wearing here. An outfit so rich in detail I did not realise just how well his outfit was styled until I began to edit the picture for this menswear post on Street Fashion Sydney. From the Royal Blue jeans, the abstract patterns in green pink and blue on a black base short sleeve shirt to the matching hair and shoes, the jewellery too, in colour shapes and form, and a matching blue back pack too.. An inner city not-so-casual menswear masterpiece! Photographed  in Kings Cross on platform 1; thanks Dan for letting me grab this shot.

Soft Blacks and Brown.

When I asked this young man if I could grab a shot of him for Street Fashion Sydney at the Gallery 9 exhibition opening, he asked me if I was being ironic, and after I assured him I was not, he agreed to let me grab a few frames. Anyway I do love this outfit. And while yes I do believe that it is looking more like women's apparel than classic menswear;  its working very well. It also reminds me of my trips to Sportsgirl in my late teens to buy shirts as they were funkier and cheaper than the the shirts you could buy in the mens stores.. Thanks so much for a great street fashion shot. Art in background is by WHAT, photographed at Gallery 9 in Darlinghurst.

Fashion and French Style at Ariel Books in Paddington.

Saturday saw me giving into my desire, heading back to Ariel bookshop in Paddington and purchasing a couple of fashion books I had been thinking about all week. One is a kind-of auction house report.. of Iconic 20th Century fashion. I have never seen a book quite like it and although I have a few books on designers through the decades this volume seems a great addition to my fashion library. The other is a menswear style guide and while I am not sure I personally need much help on that front (I am sure others may not share my opinion there..) this guide to men's clothing is so well written and laid out I know I will learn a lot about the minutiae of menswear. The two books, details below, were purchased at the always wonderful Ariel bookshop; and when at the counter paying for my purchases, Vivienne insisted that I photograph our French shop assistant in Navy and White Sailor stripped dress, and classic red red lipstick; how fabulously French indeed!

Amelia Arsenic - Boy London & Furr Hair.. at the QVB.

Should I really be surprised when my eye is caught by some unusual beauty and street style, that the identity behind the look is a designer them-self?  Probably not; but I was surprised that the first personage of style was toting a re-issue Boy London top and has her hair done (when in Sydney "John is the only one who really gets the colour right") John or is it Jon at Furr in Newtown both big in the 80s and still going strong! Amelia Arsenic teamed Black Milk leggings with her boots and the aforementioned. What a great look, thanks Amelia and all the best with your designs.

The Top 10 Street Fashion Sydney for 2013..

Are lists in or out? I don't really know and I for one don't really care.. What I do know is that 2013 represented the first full calendar year that I spent shooting Street Fashion Sydney (SFS) with the truly fabulous Fujifilm X-Pro1; the first camera I have ever carried with me very very nearly everyday and  everywhere! As a direct result there were two big changes in the life of SFS from working with this camera equipment (and in my life as well); the number of posts increased and the actual size of a blog post shot up dramatically in terms of the number of images used to tell a story, along with an increase in image quality too. The stories I told here on SFS became more detailed and I believe more engaging for my readers and viewers and while retaining high search results for blog posts, the social sharing this year increased exponentially, confirming I think, the increase in quality and engagement. Now if I can just get you all to sign onto the new SFS Facebook Page as well.. then 2014 is sure to be looking like the best year ever!

So here they are, the top 10 of 2013; the absolutely unique point-of-view of what's happening in Sydney from emerging designers to individuals-on-the-street to major brand launches; all documented in fine detail with Lens and the Pen of Kent Johnson, published and presented on Street Fashion Sydney - please do-share and Enjoy!
