Head On Photo Festival & The Fujifilm X100F

It's now the last week of the 2019 Head On Photography Festival here in Sydney. Thanks to Head On and Fujifilm Australia I have been sponsored with the fabulous X100F to document openings and well; whatever from the festival catches my eye. I've seen quite a few shows. I sat in on about 10 artists talks at the Head On Hub - and I certainly would not have attended quite so many if I had not wanted to document the photographers speaking - and that was a HUGE bonus as it was a really wonderful experience hearing these talented artists talking about their work. Put these talks on your list for next year; they are free, full of insights into photography, I just felt like I was getting topped up with ideas and inspiration. There are some more openings this week and of course, the HUB is still open with a lot of great work, shows are still up around town; get your skates on and check out as much as you can. Photographing Backstage with Watson x Watson at MBFWA.

I was privileged last week to photograph backstage at the Watson x Watson fashion show, part of the Mecedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, or, #MBFWA; yes much easier.. While there were quite a few models walking in the show and most were from IMG, some including Madison Stubbington arrived somewhat later having had to rush over from a previous show; for these models this meant an intensive time with the teams from Redken for hair and Curtis Collection doing make up with very many hands working together to have the models ready to go. Must say the models were all a sea of calm in a maelstrom of activity! And the action never stops with, the hair and make up teams following the models all the way to the runway providing final touch ups on the go. Vivid Sydney 2013 - Street Fashion Reportage-Style with the Fuji X-Pro1

What a difference a year makes! Last year when shooting the Vivid Light Festival I went all Old Skool with tripod and filters and tricky exposures but this year, shooting with the Fuji X-Pro1 I decided to go all reportage-style and put my focus, and the fabulous Fuji's 35mm lens on the people attending vivid and their interactions with the Vivid event itself. All the pictures were made with Fujifilm X-Pro1, XF35mmF1.4 R iso at 3200 and giving a little extra pop using the  EF20 Flash set at-1. Camera in aperture priority mode, most shots at F2. With the camera set all I had to do was find my subjects and photograph them; which was not that tricky once I got going. Yes one certainly needs some confidence but I do think the Fuji X-Pro1 looks so different that the very camera itself  'cuts you some extra slack in a crowd'  and I didn't get too many strange or agro looks. Nice! Hope you like my take on Vivid Sydney 2013..
