Art Month Darlinghurst Art Bar Art Party!

How many times can you say Art in a title, looks like three is the lucky number. I had a great time at the Darlinghurst Art Bar party - the last for this time round. And so nice to be held as a proper street party too! Well done Art Month. I took so so so many pictures with the fabulous Fuji X-Pro1 and its little EF-X20 flash that this is going to be a huge picture intensive blog post! Lots of Street Fashion, lots of shoes and lots of happy smiling faces - which is as it should be when you are out celebrating art in Sydney and having a great time. Here they, here YOU are, lets 'share' the life out of this one..

Guy Maestri & Friends - Heavy Ground Opening - Olsen Irwin

I took a seat on the bench across the road from the Olsen Irwin gallery just a little after six and watched the art patrons arriving for the show. It was an interesting night on that front with the different groups arriving at what seemed to me to be quite distinct waves. How should I say this.. the more traditional art set arriving first, then the artist(s)-set, then at quite a gap there was an influx of the student and the 'cool' set although I suppose no-one is cool any-more! And I got to meet Guy at last and take his portrait, a perfect night.

Two fabulous shows, Guy's landscapes in heavy impasto in the front gallery and Emma Van Leest's - Amouris Labour, delicate paper cut-out works in the second.

Choose Stripes - Every which way you can.

Every which way, its stripes. Matte has put together an eclectic striped ensemble; a classic Anthea Crawford vintage silk horizontal stripe jacket in black and white, vertical blue and white striped shorts over rainbow striped meggings complimented with the blue and white, mid-cut basketball boots with a a yellow Nike Swoosh - a little tick of a stripe of it's own.

Same - Artists and their Posse at 55 Sydenham Rd

'Same' a group showing by - Jack Jeweller / Robert Milne / Marian Tubbs / Eleanor Weber - and some of best video art I have seen in a long time. The Director of the gallery told me the artists were anonymous but the artists told me they were not.. I never got to the bottom of that one so I decided to do an anonymous portrait anyway with everyone facing away from the camera, and just to be safe, a front one too. I've joined them together as you can see below, having an each way bet on whether the art crew are anonymous or not..

Artists portrait, Jack Jeweller / Robert Milne / Marian Tubbs / Eleanor Weber at 'Same' 55 Sydenham Road Marrickville.

And there was a stylish 'art posse' in attendance too who were kind enough to let me make a little series of Street Fashion Portraits; thank you everyone for your kindness and patience.

Art Month Sydney - P-arty on Dudes.. Paddington/Woollarah

The first of six Art Month Sydney parties - in conjunction with galleries in six 'Art Precincts' kicked off last night. Street Fashion Sydney took in four galleries in the Paddington/Woollahra precinct which was really just the tip of the iceberg of the art in Paddo/Woollahra and all the art happening this month. My art walk started with photography at Stills Gallery, moved on to Martin Browne Contemporary then a little further up the street to Roslyn Oxley 9 (which if you did not know better you may have mistakenly thought was hosting the official precinct art party) - back out into  Roylston Street and the now darkening evening for my first look at the all new glossy-floored-light-cube that is Sarah Cottier Gallery. And finally back up the hill a little way to Mick Gallery, Geoff Dyer's 'Lake Country' paintings and the official art bar for Paddington. In every gallery there was not only great art, there was also great fashion and style on show; which after all is what Street Fashion Sydney is all about..

Artist's Style - Ida Lawrence at Mils Gallery

Ida Lawrence at her solo show, 'bloody woop woop'. Now there is a term you don't hear much any more,  good to see it making a come back. And nice to see another artist outfit coordinated for the show, I particularly like the inclusion of the Iconic Blundstone Boots; after all what else would you wear to an exhibition about a country town? Well perhaps some RM Williams I suppose but the Blunnies work just as well.
