Shoes - Woollahra Art Space..
I must say I was not feeling quite my usual perky self the other night when I attended this lovely art opening in Woollahra. So perhaps I spent a bit more time looking down at the floor than usual - I mean I always look down at the floor to see what people are wearing on their feet; but on this particular evening footwear was all I could bring myself to photograph. Not to worry, I think we have a fairly interesting collection of shoes and what-not here and, some insight into seasonal, or is that trans-seasonal at this time of year; toe nail colour schemes. And it looks like the orange has it though I do like that white nail polish too! Here are the shots, I hope you enjoy Street Fashion Sydney's first ever no-faces picture post.

For the Record - Art Made/Materials Matter - Manne Schulze / Rachel Park
Two of the exhibitions I attended this week were of particular interest not just because of the works themselves but due to the materials used and the complex nature of the works that were made with those materials. Manne Schulze's 'Vinyl Wonderworld' makes (Re)-use of old 78's & 33 1/3 RPM records to create intricately patterned works both large and small, the contrasting orientation of the sound grooves in the vinyl catching the light and modulating the patternation. Selective use of the record labels colours become the primary pattern source in some works or the colour cue for abstract delineation in others. Repetition, rotation, division and morphing colour labels spin their way into the hypnotic companion Video Work of Ian Andrews; Schulzemix. Till May 4 2013 Syndicate at Danks.
Meanwhile, artist Rachel J Park continues to explore fragility with her installation work 'I AM' at ACCELERATOR Gallery in Pyrmont. 'I AM' was assembled on-site over a two week period using cheap toilet paper, the work certainly can't be moved and a bad bump would most likely destroy it! It's a beautiful and ephemeral piece. I took these pictures including the two portraits of Rachel after the gallery talk on Thursday night. One of the things that surprised me was that the conversation from the floor did (perhaps not surprisingly) keep returning to the material again and again. At which point I piped in that it was now obvious to me that toilet paper is not just a fragile tissue paper it seems to have the nature of a fetish material too - people are obsessive about it! Till 27th April 2013.

Back to Paper at Studio W (Double You..)
Whoever wrote the lame campaign for converse 'Shoes are Boring' has NEVER been to an art opening heavily populated with NAS students where the shoes are never boring and the clothes are always well styled; but then they have some experience at putting together Art & Fashion, so no surprises there.. Gather together a group show of past and present NAS students - and well you can just imagine how its going to go off! But just in case you are having trouble imagining, never fear Street Fashion Sydney is here with a lovely editorial on the opening night - we have everything, jackets and bags, art and artists, Shoes, shoes shoes, more shoes and more home grown style than you can poke a 2B pencil at! And talk about resilient no Heads Will Role art scandal was going to put the brakes on this celebration of art on paper. And a lot of affordable good art too; but you better be quick the red dots were popping up all over the shop. Now that's what all artist need, some healthy sales to make all the effort worth while.

Off the Street - 5 Floors Up - 10x8 Gallery
Saturday saw the public launch of the new photography gallery, 10x8. The gallery is on Level 5 / 56-60 Foster Street in Surry Hills. An appropriate location for a photography gallery as the building has a long association with photography having been home to many photographers studios over the years. The first show kicked off with some major names in photography including works by Stephen Dupont and Andrew Quilty, there are nine excellent photographers represented in this show.
So not only did I get to see some great photography on the walls, I also caught up with quite a few photographer friends and naturally I managed to grab a couple of shots for Street Fashion Sydney with the Fuji X-Pro1 too. What a nice way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon! Gallery links below.

Photographer's Style - Redfern Street Redfern
On Saturday afternoon I attended the opening of the Jill Crossley 'Beyond Looking' exhibition. Its a beautiful show of black and white photographs of 'abstracts from nature' at the Arthere gallery- quite mysterious and beautiful. The show was opened by Robert McFarlane who has know Jill for very many years and provided some insight into her working life as a photographer and; some tips on viewing her work. Do visit this show!
After the show I coffee with my friends the photographers Sandra R and Lynn Smith; Lynn showed recently at Arthere.. and though I have known Lynn 'online' for years, it was lovely to finally meet him in person. And as a bit of a celebration of the meeting and at Lynn's prompting; here is a commemorative portrait of my two friends Sandra and Lynn looking very much like two photographers, holding up a wall in Redfern. Love you guys.

Yoshimi - Black and Burnt Citrus Colours - York St Sunday
There I was; QVB Sunday afternoon sipping a coffee at JET with my lovely hair & make-up artist Kaori. When this vision in burnt orange/yellow and black patterned jeans, sky high platform boots - black tee and retro sunnies came wandering into my view. Well what's a Street Fashion Photographer to do! I waved, I asked, I grabbed the Fuji X-pro1 from under the table.. I know I know.. and managed a few quick frames of the vision named Yoshimi. Thank you very much, love this outfit - I think I'm off to a great start to the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week already!
